Kakadu Coastline

In the Kakadu region the coastline is mainly mangrove forest along the edge where the floodplains and the sea interact.  As silt deposits build up in salt water areas they are satbilised by mangrove species and extensive mangrove forest result.  These are very important habitats for many species.  There are some beaches, especially around Field Island where species like Flatback Turtles nest.
